G.C. Leong की Certificate of Physical and Human Geography Geography Optional Paper I की सबसे ज़रूरी book है। हर serious aspirant इसे पढ़ता है। लेकिन ज़्यादातर लोग इसे गलत तरीके से पढ़ते हैं।
गलती book में नहीं है, approach में है। हर chapter को equal depth से पढ़ना, कम important chapters पर हफ्ते बर्बाद करना, और जो chapters हर exam में आते हैं उन्हें rush करना, यही सबसे common mistake है।
यह guide इसी को fix करती है।
Leong खोलने से पहले : यह ज़रूर करें
पिछले 10 साल के Geography Optional Paper I के PYQs download करें। एक भी answer नहीं करना, बस questions पढ़ें। दो sessions में।
आपको तुरंत pattern दिखेगा: कुछ chapters से हर साल questions आते हैं। कुछ में सालों से कुछ नहीं आया। यही आपका reading priority map है।
यह पूरी strategy इसी principle पर बनी है।
Part 1 : Lithosphere
Priority: बहुत ज़्यादा
Lithosphere section में earth की interior structure, rocks, weathering, और landforms cover होते हैं, running water, wind, glaciers, waves से बने landforms।
यह Leong का सबसे high-priority section है। UPSC यहाँ से consistently पूछता है:
- Plate tectonics : theory, plate boundaries, associated phenomena
- Fluvial landforms : drainage patterns, river rejuvenation
- Glacial landforms : erosional और depositional features
- Karst topography
- Coastal landforms
कैसे पढ़ें: हर chapter carefully पढ़ें। Diagrams के साथ detailed notes बनाएं। Leong के इस section के हर diagram को examinable मानें, especially river valleys, glacial features, और coastal landforms के cross-sections।
Part 2 : Atmosphere
Priority: High
Atmosphere section में pressure systems, winds, humidity, precipitation, और climate classification cover होती है।
यहाँ से high-frequency topics:
- Heat budget of the earth, बहुत common, global warming के साथ often पूछा जाता है
- Pressure belts और planetary wind systems
- Jet streams और Indian monsoon पर उनका influence
- El Niño और La Niña, mechanism और India पर impact
- Koppen’s climate classification
कैसे पढ़ें: Notes के साथ carefully पढ़ें। Atmosphere का current affairs से strong link है, climate change, extreme weather events, monsoon variability। जब The Hindu में heatwave या unusual monsoon की news पढ़ें, तो Leong के atmospheric concepts से connect करें।
ध्यान दें: Indian monsoon पर Leong का chapter thin है। NCERT Class 11 Chapter 4 (Climate) से supplement करें।
Part 3 : Hydrosphere
Priority: Medium-High
Ocean currents, tides, waves, और ocean deposits यहाँ cover होते हैं।
High-frequency topics: ocean currents (causes, major currents, climatic effects), tides, और ocean deposits।
Diagram priority: Major ocean currents का map essential है। Memory से कम से कम तीन बार draw और label करें।
Part 4 : Biosphere
Priority: Medium
Soils और natural vegetation; biomes, उनकी characteristics और distribution।
यह Leong का shortest section है। एक thorough reading, concise notes। यहाँ over-invest मत करें, 2-3 sessions maximum।
Notes कैसे बनाएं जो actually काम करें
दो-level note system use करें:
- First reading notes: Detailed, chapter-by-chapter। Definitions, processes, classifications, diagrams। Reference notes।
- Revision notes: हर chapter के first reading notes के बाद, 20 मिनट में एक-page summary। Key terms, key processes, thumbnail diagrams। Quick-revision के लिए।
यह system upfront ज़्यादा time लेता है लेकिन revision में बहुत बचाता है। Working professional के लिए जो short evening sessions में ही revise कर सकता है, compact one-page summaries बहुत valuable हैं।
Leong में कितना time लगेगा?
हफ्ते में दो Geography Optional sessions के साथ, Leong के चारों parts, proper notes के साथ, 8-10 हफ्ते।
Rush मत करें। 10 हफ्ते में thorough reading उस reading से बेहतर है जो 4 हफ्ते में rush होकर तीन बार फिर पढ़नी पड़े।
